On April 12, 1980 Terry Fox began his Marathon of Hope at the Atlantic coast outside St. John's, Newfoundland. Five months later, on September 1, Fox's deteriorating condition forced him to end his journey just outside Thunder Bay, Ontario.
He had travelled more than 5,000 kilometres, and raised more than $24 million, in the name of cancer research.
His dream lives on; on Friday, September 25, 2009, Scott Young's staff and students put on their house league clothing, running shoes or their rollerblades and participated in the annual Terry Fox Run. As the photos illustrate, our school community rallied together to remember the inspirational Canadian icon and to keep Terry's dream alive.
Over the past 29 years, the Terry Fox Foundation has raised $500 million for cancer research - and with only 30 employees across Canada. The rest of the work is done by volunteers. Here, at Scott Young P.S., we are please to announce that we have raised $1728.72! Thank you to our staff and students for this great achievement.
